Award: Silver CIPR Pride Award for ‘Best Use of Media Relations’
Client: Steam Car Company
Challenge: Limited resources and the need to generate media attention and sponsorship for a pioneering project focused on alternative fuels and technologies.
Testimonial: “Rebecca joined the Steam Car project five years ago and her team have worked tirelessly in helping us achieve our goal of breaking the Land Speed Steam Record. Without Eventageous, I can confidently say the Steam Car Project would have struggled to find the valued sponsorship a project such as this requires.” – Lynne Angel, Director & Team Manager, The Steam Car Company
Background: Rebecca joined the British Steam Car Team at its inception, tasked with raising awareness of the innovative project and securing sponsorship. The Steam Car team sought to break the Land Speed Steam Record, but they faced significant challenges due to limited resources and the vehicle’s early unreliability.
Challenges: With no advertising budget, the team relied on earned media to build support and attract sponsors. The project was under pressure to generate consistent media coverage despite setbacks during development. Waiting for the vehicle to be fully operational was not an option.
Strategy: Eventageous PR implemented a proactive media strategy, focusing on drip-feeding regular updates on the project’s progress — from successes to setbacks. The goal was to create a compelling and transparent story that would captivate the public and media, thus securing sponsorship.
Results: Eventageous PR’s strategy generated 1343 pieces of printed media coverage in the UK alone within just 12 months. The continuous media presence led to increased public interest and a loyal media following. As a result, the Steam Car team attracted significant sponsorship and saw their project gain global attention.
